Sometimes, it is the people suffering the most that have the greatest compassion for the pain of others. And one of those is the little boy named John Thuo in Nairobi, Kenya.
Everyday, John walks on streets and beg for money from cars stuck in traffic to survive the day. One day he ran into a woman named Gladys Kamande. He then sympathetically cried and decided to give her all money he has hoping to help her.
It then turned out that Kamande is suffering various health problems. Her collapsed lungs constantly causing her shortness of breath. Because of her poor health situation, she has to rely on an oxygen concentrator, oxygen cylinders, and a generator to be able to breathe at all times. Her lifetime is full of constant pain, probably both physically and mentally; additionally, she has been gone through 12 surgeries and ruptured her optical nerve.
He learned all what she’s been going through and started crying. Then, he did the unthinkable- he generously gave all the money he begged from people on streets to her.
Street kids are often looked down upon and viewed with low social status, but a passerby was touchingly struck by his compassion and quickly snapped a photo of this poor little boy crying. And since it’s posted on social media, it has gone viral.
And amazingly thanks to this little boy’s compassion, people learned the stories of Kamande’s serious health condition and together raised more than 3 million shillings in just 4 days to help her. The fund helped Kamande have the treatment she needed in India. And since then John has been taken off the street as well by Kamande. Additionally, John is about to go back to school and he sees Kamande as his new mom.
The short moment of compassion and kindness really changes the lives of everyone involved. Though all their problems are not solved, but undoubtedly their lives become more beautiful.
